What is Zilis About?

Zilis (means “multiplying nutrition” in Swahili) is an MLM company that manufactures and distributes CBD oils and CBD oil-infused products.

The company was founded in 2015 by husband and wife, Steven and Angie Thompson.

Steven serves as the CEO of Zilis.

According to Zilis website, Steven has more than 20 years of experience in the wellness and direct selling industries. He was also voted as one of the top 40 mentors in the world in a survey taken by over 100.000 participants from all over the world.

It is said that Steven has served in a variety of positions in the direct sales industry including Director of Marketing and Vice President of Sales for multiple international Direct Selling firms.

Angie serves as the COO of Zilis and she fulfills a variety of duties such as coordinating events, human resources, Ambassador support, and much more…

She was first introduced to MLM during the ’90s so she has more than 20 years of extensive experience in the direct sales business model as well.

Truthfully, there’s no information about Steven and Angie anywhere online besides Zilis’s website. I wasn’t able to find neither the companies Steve and Angie have worked for over the years, not that survey whereas Steve was voted as one of the top 40 mentors in the world. In addition, both their LinkedIn profiles are empty. The only work experience Steve has listed under his profile is being the CEO of Zilis.

Apparently, Zilis has been featured by many news outlets such as Forbes, WNDU News, and The Tribune.

The company’s website states that Zilis is the fastest-growing hemp-derived CBD company in the United States but again, this claim is absolutely unsubstantiated.

The company’s mission is to provide an unlimited opportunity for its Ambassadors, while its unique Pay It Forward program impacts those in need at home and abroad.

The Pay It Forward program is kinda like a donation program whereas Veterans can receive products of Zilis for free through a network of Non-Profit Veterans Organizations.

In addition, partnering with a local NGO, Zilis distributes daily nutrition packs to the children of Haiti in an attempt to prevent their malnutrition.

Furthermore, through a partnership with Vitamin Angels, Zilis donates prenatal vitamins to expectant mothers and their infants.

You can find a lot more about Zilis, its history, leadership team, mission, products, compensation plan, policies, etc on the company’s official website.

Zilis Products & Prices

Zilis manufactures and distributes CBD & CBG oils, CBD-infused products, and several hemp-free complementary booster oils.

The company’s flagship products are UltraCell and UltraCBG.

Both products are water-soluble, full-spectrum CBD & CBG oils that provide full Endocannabinoid System (ECS) support and have a 94% bioavailability rate.

UltraCell and UltraCBG cost $149.95 per 30ml.

Another popular product of Zilis is the UltraCell Topical, a water-soluble, full-spectrum, CBD-infused topical cream that contains several essential oils.

UltraCell Topical costs $149.95 per 60ml.

The remaining of Zilis products are hemp-free.

They can be taken as standalone or as boosters to UltraCell and UltraCBG.

  • UltraEdge: $119.95 per 60ml (Cognitive Support, Focused Thinking, More energy)
  • UltraIce: $119.95 per 60ml (Homeostasis Support, Balance the Body, Optimum Performance)

You can find more info about Zilis products on zilis.com/products

The prices of the products can be found only on replicated e-shops of Zilis Ambassadors.

Zilis Ambassador
Compensation Plan

The majority of MLM companies have so overly complicated compensation plans that it feels like you need to have a rocket scientist doctorate to understand just their first paragraph.

Zilis’s compensation plan is no exception…

Nonetheless, I’ll try my best to get you up to speed.

Zilis compensates its Ambassadors in 11 different ways.

  1. Retail Profit
  2. Fast Start Bonus
  3. Binary Team
  4. Infinity Fast Start
  5. Generational Bonus
  6. Infinity Residual Bonus
  7. Infinity Matching Bonus
  8. Blessing Bonus
  9. Healthcare Bonus
  10. Jeep Bonus
  11. Global Bonus Pool

1 • Retail Profit

When you sell Zili’s products to retail customers, the difference between the wholesale and the retail price of those products goes into your pocket.

Zilis claims that it pays up to 100% retail commissions.

Someone would assume that earning a 100% commission means pocketing all the profits of their retail sales but this is very far from the truth.

Zilis paying up to 100% retail commissions means that sometimes the retail price of a product might be 100% higher than its wholesale price.

For instance, if you sell product X that has a wholesale price of $10 for $20 to a retail customer, you’ll earn $10 (the difference between the retail and wholesale price of product X) which is actually an 100% commission of the wholesale price of the product and not its retail price.

The fact that Zilis twists something so simple just to manipulate people into thinking that they will be earning 100% retail commissions is just appalling, to say the least.

Moving on…

2 • Fast Start Bonus

When Ambassadors you personally recruit purchase one of the Enrollment Packs, you earn commissions.

  • $199 Bronze Pack – You earn $20
  • $599 Silver Pack – You earn $60
  • $1299 Gold Pack – You earn $130

3 • Binary Team

Earn commissions when new Ambassadors purchase Enrollment Packs or upgrade their current Enrollment Packs through a binary structure.

A binary structure places you at the top of your team with one team on your left (left leg) and one team on your right (right leg).

Binary-Compensation-Plan

Each leg can contain an unlimited amount of people who are recruited as Zilis Ambassadors either by you or by anyone else on either leg.

Every single time a new Ambassador on your left leg purchases an Enrollment Pack or upgrades their current Enrollment Pack the BV (bonus volume) of the left leg increases. The same goes for the right leg as well.

The leg which generates the higher BV is considered your power leg and the leg which generates the smaller BV is considered your weak leg.

Zilis pays you up to 20% of the BV of your weaker leg each week.

A minimum of 300BV on each leg is required to earn commissions through this binary structure.

The maximum amount of money that you can earn through this binary structure per week is determined by your rank.

  • Associate – up to $250 per week
  • Community – up to $500 per week
  • City – up to $750 per week
  • Area – up to $1000 per week
  • Regional – up to $2500 per week
  • National – up to $5000 per week
  • Presidential – up to $10.000 per week
  • Diamond – up to $15.000 per week
  • Double Diamond – up to $20.000 per week
  • Triple Diamond – up to $25.000 per week

An Ambassador may store and carry over up to 1 million BV in their strong leg. This BV may be used for commission purposes in the future.

In order to be able to store the BV of your strong leg, you need to have either a 100BV auto-ship order in place or 150BV in general during any given month.

4 • Infinity Fast Start

This Infinity Fast Start Bonus is earned on all the Enrollment Pack purchases of the new Ambassadors in your downline one you reach the ranks of Area or higher.

5 • Generational Bonus

This Generational Bonus pays you on all product volume generated up to 6 generations of your organization deep.

The number of generations that you’ll get paid through depend on your current rank.

Zilis Generational Bonus

Unfortunately, Zilis’s compensation plan doesn’t clarify what a generation is.

6 • Infinity Residual Bonus

Earn up to 9% of the total sales volume produced within your entire downline each month when you achieve the ranks of Area, Regional, and National.

  • Area – 4%
  • Regional – 7%
  • National – 9%

7 • Infinity Matching Bonus

Earn Infinity Matching Bonuses on all personally sponsored Ambassadors that achieve the same rank as you when you reach the rank Area and higher.

  • Area – 10%
  • Regional – 20%
  • National – 30%
  • Presidential – 40%

Zilis’s compensation plan doesn’t clarify what those percentages are of. It might be of personal sales, team sales, Enrollment Packs, etc. No clue!

If you pay for Gold Pack upon your enrollment, you receive 20% matching potential (of something) on all personally enrolled Ambassadors for life.

8 • Blessing Bonus

When you reach the rank of City and higher, you start qualifying for this Blessing Bonus.

The higher your rank, the higher the bonus amount.

  • City/Area – $100
  • Region – $200
  • National – $300
  • Presidential – $400
  • Diamond and higher – $500

This Blessing Bonus is meant to be given away to someone in need such as a well-established non-profit, a family member in need, or a total stranger so it will not be yours to keep.

9 • Healthcare Bonus

Once you reach the rank of Regional and higher, you can qualify for this monthly Healthcare Bonus.

Again, the higher your rank, the higher the amount of money you’ll receive.

  • Regional – $500
  • National – $750
  • Presidential – $1000
  • Diamond – $1250
  • Double Diamond and higher – $1500

The Healthcare Bonus is paid to qualified Ambassadors in the amount of their premium and up to the qualified amount after proof of their insurance is approved by Zilis.

10 • Jeep Bonus

Reach the rank of Area and Higher and you’ll be able to qualify for a monthly bonus to pay off your lease or load of a Jeep Wrangler or Grand Cherokee.

  • Area – $400
  • Regional – $500
  • National – $700
  • Presidential – $800
  • Diamond – $1000
  • Double diamond and higher – $1200

If you don’t want a Jeep you can request to receive actual money that will be equal to 50% of the bonus you would receive based on your rank.

11 • Global Bonus Pool

Two percent of the company’s quarterly revenue is shared by qualified Regionals, Nationals and Presidentials.

You must qualify for 2 out of 3 calendar months per calendar quarter at each rank to earn shares of this Global Pool.

You can study Zilis’s full compensation plan right here and right here.

The short video below also sums up Zilis’s compensation plan pretty neatly so you might want to watch it before moving on.

Please note that Zilis’s compensation plan might undergo changes from time to time so by the time you read this review, some of the info, the commission rates, the rank qualifications, etc that are displayed in the video and PDF file I shared with you right above might not be that accurate.

How to Join Zilis as an Ambassador?

In order to join Zilis as an Ambassador, you have to head over to the company’s official website and click the “Join” button that is located on the top right of the website.

In order to proceed, you’ll have to have the Enroller ID of another Zilis Ambassador.

If you don’t you can contact Zilis at support@zilis.com or 214-705-3702 and they will bring you in contact with an Ambassador who operates in your area.

After submitting your Enroller ID, you’ll have to fill in an application form, choose one of the available Enrollment Packs, and agree to the company’s signup terms and conditions.

After that, you’ll be prompted to set up an auto-ship order but this step is optional so you can proceed without doing so.

Submit your application and your order and you are ready to go!

How Much Does It Cost to Join Zilis as an Ambassador?

In order to join Zilis as an Ambassador, you have to purchase one of the three enrollment kits below:

  • Basic: $99 (one-time payment)
  • Bronze Pack: $199 (one-time payment)
  • Silver Pack: $599 (one-time payment)
  • Gold Pack: $1299 (one-time payment)

All the packs contain a starter kit, a personal replicated website/e-shop, access to a basic cloud business management system (back office), and support.

The Bronze, Silver, and Gold Packs contain several products, and marketing materials such a product and opportunity brochures.

The more expensive the pack, the more products and marketing resources you’ll get.

In addition, after your first year as an Ambassador, you’ll have to purchase a $49 membership fee for each additional year you want to remain an Ambassador.

Furthermore, in order to qualify for commissions during any given month, you’ll have to maintain either a personal monthly auto-ship order of at least 50PV or gather at least 75PV from your own and your retail customer’s orders during that month.

Is Zilis a Pyramid Scheme?

Most of the time it’s very hard to distinguish between a legit MLM company and a pyramid scheme.

The video below will help you understand how to spot and avoid pyramid schemes in general.

The main difference between an MLM and a pyramid scheme is that MLMs give you the opportunity to earn commissions by selling actual products or services to retail customers while with a pyramid scheme the only way to earn money is by recruiting other people into the scheme.

Not all MLMs are legitimate. If the money you make through an MLM is based on your sales to the public, it may be a legitimate one. If the money you make is based on the number of people you recruit and your sales to them, it’s not legit. It’s a pyramid scheme. Pyramid schemes are illegal, and the vast majority of their participants lose money. – Federal Trade Commission

Since Zilis offers you the option to earn commissions by selling its products in retail, technically, the company is not a pyramid scheme.

However, your earning potential with Zilis is directly correlated with the number of Ambassadors in your downline, the Enrollment Packs they purchase, and the monthly auto-ship orders they maintain in order to remain active so Zilis definitely has some characteristics of a pyramid scheme.

Proceed with caution.

Zilis Pros

  • Free Replicated Website
  • Offers Refunds (Conditional)
  • Hot Market

1 • Free Replicated Website

Once you join Zilis as an Ambassador, the company provides you with a free replicated website.

When people purchase Zilis’s products through your replicated website, a percentage of the total amount of money those people pay land right into your pocket.

In addition, if someone signs up as an Ambassador through your replicated website you automatically become their sponsor, and they become part of your downline.

If marketed the right way, this replicated e-shop could help you maximize your retail customers and recruits and thus your income.

If your business is not on the internet, then your business will be out of business – Bill Gates

2 • Offers Refunds (Conditional)

Zilis offers a money-back guarantee on products returned within 30 days of the day they got purchased.

Research shows that money-back guarantees increase customers’ feelings of satisfaction with their purchases, making them more likely to make another purchase from the same seller.

You could leverage this money-back guarantee the company offers as a selling point to increase your sales.

However, be aware that Zilis refunds only 80% of the purchased price of any product as they charge a 20% restocking fee.

Lastly, in order for the refund to take place, a customer or Ambassador must obtain an approved Returned Merchandise Authorization (RMA) from Ambassador Support and return the product in a resalable condition.

3 • Hot Market

There’s not a single doubt that the CBD market is currently on fire.

Experts claim that the CBD market grows at a rate of 32% – $40% per year and will reach $1.3 billion by 2024.

While this clearly proves that CBD products are in very high demand and that there is so much money to be made by being involved in the CBD industry, it also means that the competition is going to be fierce.

If you don’t have any experience regarding sales and CDB products (and I don’t mean just injecting them), you might have a hard time breaking into the market earning a substantial profit.

Zilis Cons

  • MLM Business Model
  • Pay to Play (a Lot)
  • Extremely Low Income Potential
  • Complicated Compensation Plan

1 • MLM Business Model

As mentioned earlier, I am not at all fond of the MLM business model in general for many reasons…

First of all, the percentage of MLM participants who never actually make a profit is awfully high (74% – 99%).

In addition, the majority of those who do manage to make a profit, don’t earn more than $5000 per year.

Secondly, I hate selling…

And thirdly, I’ve heard so many stories of people losing all their friends, family, and money due to the pushy and sleazy practices they were being taught by their “mentors” that I have become repulsed by the MLM business model in general.

Being involved in an MLM is just not worth the trouble in my mind.

Especially when there exist other much more legit ways of earning a lot more money without having to go through all that struggle of becoming a sleazy salesperson and jeopardizing your relationships with those around you because you can’t stop perceiving them as walking bags of cash.

2 • Pay to Play (a Lot)

According to FTC, “Pay to Play” is one of the 5 most common red flags of an MLM company being a pyramid scheme and Zilis requires a lot of it!

Ambassadors are being pushed to buy the most expensive Enrollment Packs of the company during their sign up as well as set up a monthly auto-ship order.

The company’s compensation plan also keeps stating how useful and trouble-free it would be for an Ambassador to set up an auto-ship order literally on every other page.

There are also instances where Zilis claims to double an Ambassador’s commissions and bonuses if they purchase or upgrade to a $1299 Gold Pack.

According to the FTC, 99.9% of the participants of such “Pay to Play” schemes lose money.

3 • Extremely Low Income Potential

According to Zili’s Income Disclosure Statement, the average annual gross income for Direct Sales distributors based on industry standards is less than $300.

This estimate is not derived from Zilis’s Ambassadors as the company claims that it lacked enough statistical data to prepare reliable income disclosures.

Zilis published this IDS in 2018 and the company had been operating since 2015.

3 years is more than enough to have the necessary yearly statistics to put together an accurate Income Disclosure Statement but apparently Zilis is trying to hide something.

Maybe its Ambassadors are making even less per year than this $300 average?

Just saying…

4 • Complicated Compensation Plan

Infinity Fast Start Bonuses, Binary Teams, left and right legs, BV, PV, CV, various percentages and commissions, pools, dozens of different ranks and qualifications, aaaaaaaaaaaahhhhhh…….

A person who is relatively new to MLMs will probably have trouble understanding how Zilis’s compensation plan really works.

Plus, the compensation plan is really inaccurate, misleading, and lacks important information and clarifications.

But did you know that most MLMs make their compensation plans so complicated on purpose?

It’s called “Complexity Bias” and it’s the tendency of people to trust complex concepts more than simple ones.

Marketers use complexity bias all the time to boost the sales of a product/service by incorporating confusing language or insignificant details into its packaging or sales copy.

MLM companies do the exact same thing with their compensation plans to get more people to join them.

You can read more about complexity bias right here.

Is Zilis Suggested?

If you are already using Zilis’s products and you are really satisfied with them, joining Zilis as an Ambassador might be a good opportunity for you to get some decent discounts on products you would purchase anyway as well as maybe make some extra money by selling some of those products to your friends.

If not, then joining Zilis isn’t suggested for many reasons…

First of all, its income potential is extremely low and directly correlated with how many Ambassadors you and your downline have recruited.

Also, Zilis employs a lot of “Pay to Play” and according to the FTC, 99.9% of those who join such models end up losing money.

In addition, most of the claims on Zilis’s website about its owners and the company itself cannot be substantiated and could be as well fake.

Lastly, to tell you the truth, I am not at all fond of the MLM business model in general…

  • The success rate and profitability of MLM reps are awfully low
  • MLM companies are extremely volatile and unstable
  • You need to invest a ton of money, time, and energy until you manage to make a profit (if you ever actually make a profit)
  • Most MLM companies focus on recruiting people instead of selling valuable and beneficial products or services

Plus, in order to make money with the MLM business model, you’ll probably have to turn into a sleazy salesperson and I really hate selling as much as I hate being sold to.

  1. Harry, very detailed and especially your explanation of compensation which I have found confusing. So I am looking at two companies the other one is Vasayo and both are suggesting the best CBD of all. I would love to see if you also did this review of Vasayo? Thank You, Steve

    1. Hi Steve!

I’ll definitely create a review of Vasayo for you! I’ll notify you in a couple of days when I have it ready.

In the meantime, why don’t you check out CBD BioCare as well?

It’s a pretty solid MLM that also distributes high-quality CBD oil products.

      Best wishes,

      Harry

  2. Thank you for the review.

Just a couple things were incorrect in the comp plan, but as you mentioned you can view it online.

I will mention that selling it retail is a great way to make a buck. You CAN earn 100% back because they offer deep tier wholesale pricing for ambassadors.

I personally love the company’s CBD and boosters.

Steven and Angela are great leaders so I don’t at all doubt their legitimacy.

I tried several other brands that did not work. It made it very easy to share the product and its benefits. I do own a small business and incorporating Zilis into my current business model was perfect!

The market is definitely HOT & the products work. I hope you find success in your venture as well.

I would highly encourage others to check out Zilis. I have ZERO regrets!

    1. Hi Angela!

Thanks a lot for sharing your very own personal experience as a Zilis Ambassador with me and I am very happy to know that you are doing well with an MLM company.

I am always trying to provide to my readers the most accurate information throughout any given review I publish so I would love to know which instances of Zilis compensation plan I got wrong in order to correct them.

I am looking forward to hearing from you!

      Harry

  3. Let’s clear up one important detail immediately for a start…
All MLMs are pyramids: That’s what the very word itself implies word by word – Multi-Level Marketing

In other words, a ranking system where you start off as a foot soldier, in the hopes to be ‘the high-end ambassador’ in the future which is a pipe dream that is being sold to newcomers right off the bat.

That is the formal part, however in reality what happens is that the victim becomes the victimizer. Pay to be in-game, and to pay off your ever-growing debts that this system is deliberately designed to generate, you’re forced to continue this vicious cycle by recruiting other people under you to peel off money from them by promising the riches just as the other guy, who recruited you, did with you.

Thanks, but no thanks, I certainly don’t want to become a petty thug that steals people’s money.

I call it the business of narcissists & psychopaths. Because it really is that – MLM marketer doesn’t care what becomes of you. Speaking from experience, I have personally communicated with MLM marketers. You either give them money, or you don’t even exist for them.

They are that horrible, quite appalling predators.

    There’s zero empathy.

If you decide to join their ranks expect to encounter love-bombing, fake relationships, tactical isolation, abusing your friends, family & relatives on top of several more cult like behaviors.

All MLM wants is to get every penny from you.

As for the written facts, that is it.. they are written. In other words: fabricated.

Zilis can claim they have 20+ years of experience, or 120+. It validates nothing. It’s another conjured up marketing stunt & that’s exactly one of the basis & aces MLM companies are playing.

Hilariously, most MLM companies always tend to forget to mention you that well over 2/3 of their overall income, if not all of it, is collected from their so called “starter packages” to get you going.

Yes, the stuff where most folks jump into fray, only to realize that there are empty lies & air castles.

These type of businesses are just a black void, they are literally giving nothing back to the society.

I’d report Zilis right away & flag it as a scam.

    1. Hi Henry,

I agree 100% with every single word you wrote.

I would love to hear your take on this new kind of practice whereas MLM companies participate in charities and make donations to non-profits, etc.

Do you think that they do this out of a genuine concern of people in need or is it just another way for those companies to appear more legit and credible to the public and maybe even trick people into joining them by convincing them that they will become part of a “movement” or “higher cause”?

It just seems pretty suspicious to me that more and more MLMs take up charities out of nowhere just because they want to help people when they have no problem whatsoever with lying and misleading the very people that work for them.

I am looking forward to hearing from you!

      Harry

  4. Thanks for this detailed review of Zilis’s MLM opportunity.

Nowadays, there are so many scams out there that it’s impossible to find some legit money-making opportunities.

I’ve fallen victim to some pyramid schemes in the past but I survived and I am still looking for a legit MLM.

I believe that Zilis is worth giving a try.

    1. Looking for a legit MLM huh?

      Good luck 😛

Unfortunately, most of the time you can’t know if an MLM is a scam until you’ve already lost your time and money trying to make money with it.

But anyway, I hope that Zilis turns out to be what you were looking for all along.

Have you considered starting your own online business as I suggest? I don’t know for how long you’ve been looking for a legit MLM but consider the fact that you might have been looking towards the wrong direction all along.

      Just saying…

      Harry

  5. Hello there!

    Thanks for this awesome article!

It’s of great help to us because as you said many kinds of scams have start appearing recently and most of us have fallen victims to them especially those people that have a get rich quick mentality.

After reading your review I think Zilis is quite ok. I could give it a try.

    1. You are welcome 🙂

      Your call 😛

Let me know how it goes after a while, David!

I really hope that you’ll be the exception of all those statistics…

      My best regards,

      Harry

  6. Hi Harry, thank you for sharing this review of Zilis.

The company seems to be very promising with numerous bonuses and commissions and I even feel like joining them.

Since it is in the CBD niche that has not been very populated, I think anyone that joins now will probably profit from it in the long run.

However, the price to join it is a bit high for me.

    1. Don’t get tricked into thinking that you can earn a lot of money with Zilis just because it offers many bonuses because most people are probably not able to earn commissions through more than just 1/3 of them.

MLM companies, in general, make their compensation plans complicated including many different bonuses to make people think that they will earn big with them but most of the time this is not the case at all.

The CBD industry is indeed very promising in terms of potential and chances are that those who will get involved with it in any way will earn big money for the years to come.

If I were you, instead of joining and MLM, I would either start an affiliate marketing or dropshipping online business in the CBD niche.

In fact, I am thinking about doing it at some point in the near future.

If this sounds like a good idea to you, go ahead and check out Wealthy Affiliate and Project 24.

Both of those platforms will take you by the hand and show you all the steps towards building one or multiple profitable online businesses.

If you have any questions, I’d be more than happy to help you out.

      My regards,

      Harry

  7. Yeah, CBD has become so popular within a very short period of time as a result of its efficiency. There’s no surprise there whatsoever.

There have been several MLM companies for various niches like beauty, health, clothes, weight loss, etc. Zilis is trying to have its own share via CBD.

Really interesting… I’ll look more into it!

  8. Wow, what a great Zilis review!

I like the fact that you can give some very good information on the MLM business model and also tell us that it doesn’t really work.

I would like to point out that I enjoy using CBD products and I could create a business around them but after reading your review, I wouldn’t join an MLM.

Creating an online business just like you mentioned makes much more sense to me!

    1. Well, I never mentioned that the MLM business model doesn’t work at all but still, I believe that going for an online business is a much wiser decision.

You can get started for free at Wealthy Affiliate as I’ve suggested within the review.

If you have any questions, make sure to let me know and I’d be more than happy to help you out!

      Harry

  9. Thanks for reviewing Zilis and explaining how it is a longshot at best to actually make any profit, or even just revenue with it.

I don’t know why so many people fall victim to the pitfalls of multi-level marketing networks. They have been around for a very long time and it’s always the vast majority of participants who fail to gain anything useful from it.

Anyways, thanks for the heads up on Zilis.
